How to verify a Tutor LMS certificate
If you want to add course certificates, then you need to get Tutor LMS Pro. It grants you access to a large collection of premium addons. Certificates is an addon that lets you use several certificate templates. You can choose one during a course creation. At the end of that course, students will be awarded that certificate.
If you have created an eLearning site with Tutor LMS then you’ll have access to some of the most advanced LMS features at your disposal. If you want certificates to be verified, then there are two ways of doing it.
- You can use a certificate template that has a certificate (verification) ID
- Create a custom certificate with Tutor LMS Certificate Builder with verification elements
If you want to use a certificate template, that is also fine. To use certificate templates, you have to enable the Certificate addon from Tutor LMS > Add-ons.
Now with the Certificate addon enabled, open the course builder and scroll down until you find the certificate templates section.
Here you can hover your mouse over a certificate and click on the “Preview” button to view the certificate. In some of these certificate templates, a verification ID is available. For example, if we preview the 2nd certificate from the left you can see that it has a verification ID.
There are other certificate templates too with a verification ID. You can use those as well.
How to check the validity of a certificate with verification ID
Every student’s certificate has a unique ID and a URL. To check the validity of the certificate you can visit your site and add the verification code at the end. For example: URL/tutor-certificate/?cert_hash=XXXXXX
Here, replace the URL with your eLearning site’s URL and replace the XXXXXX with the certificate verification ID.
How to check the validity of a certificate with QR Code
You can also add a QR code to the certificate by using the Certificate Builder tool. When this QR code is scanned it will direct the user to the URL of the certificate. This method can also be used to verify the certificate.
Certificate Builder is a separate plugin by the Tutor LMS team. If you have Tutor LMS Pro, you can also download the Certificate Builder plugin from your Themeum account dashboard. Using this plugin you can create and design custom certificates for your courses.
The plugin gives you a dedicated interface to design certificates. There are several blocks that you can drag and drop into the certificate. You can grab the QR Code block and place it anywhere in your certificate design. You can watch our video tutorial on how to use Tutor LMS Certificate Builder to create certificates.
When this QR code will be scanned, it will lead the user to the URL of the certificate. Using this method the certificate can be verified on the eLearning site it was issued from.

If you add a certificate, students will be given these certificates upon completion of the course. In order to verify this certificate, one has to search through the URL using the verification ID at the end. Or they can scan the QR code of the certificate if you’ve added that.
