How to create quizzes using MasterStudy LMS
Along with various lesson types, MasterStudy LMS has multiple quiz question categories. In total there are 7 interactive question categories in MasterStudy LMS:
- Single choice
- Multiple choice
- True or false
- Item match
- Image match
- Keywords
- Fill the gap
We will go through each type and learn how you can create these questions. You can create questions while you’re creating a course. Within the course builder, if you click on the “Add a lesson” button, you’ll have the option to add a quiz to that section. Again, you can directly create quizzes and later on assign those to your courses. Some course creators feel comfortable adding questions during course creations, while others like creating the questions beforehand and adding those later on.
In any case, to create a question directly in MasterStudy LMS, you can navigate to MS LMS > Questions from your WordPress admin dashboard. Then click the “Add New Question” button.
And if you want to add questions during course creation, click the “Add a lesson” button and select the Quiz option. Then select the quiz type you want to create and create your question.
With that out of the way, now we’re going to explore the different quiz types of MasterStudy LMS. We have created the questions while editing the course in the course builder. If you want to follow along with that, then you have to create a course first, then add sections to your course. To learn more on this topic, check out our post on how to create courses using MasterStudy LMS.
Once you have your section created, click the “Add a lesson” button and select the Quiz option.
Then you can give a name to your quiz (middle quiz, final quiz, etc.) and click the “Create” button. It will bring the MasterStudy LMS quiz builder. Now you can start adding questions to this quiz.
In the quiz builder, you will notice two buttons:
- Question: This button allows you to select a question type, and once you select a type, it will give you the options to create a question.
- Question Bank: A question bank is a group of questions from a certain category. During quiz creation you can categorize your questions and group them. Then you can add those groups of questions through the question bank option.
We will explore both of these options in this post. First we will take a look at the different quiz types and how they are created.
After clicking on the “Question” button, you’ll see a dropdown with various quiz types. You can select your quiz type from here. There are 7 quiz types, and we are going to explore each quiz type sequentially.
Single choice
The first one is the single choice question type. This is a common quiz type seen on various eLearning sites. Here, a question will be asked, and multiple options will be provided. One of those options is the correct answer. It is up to the students to choose which one is the correct answer. Take a look at the screenshot below. It explains how you can create a single choice question.
First you can write your question. It is also possible to insert media files into your question. On the left side of the question, you can see a button with an image and video icon. You can click that and add your media file to your question. After adding the question, you can also edit it by clicking the pencil icon.
If you change your mind about the question type, you can click the Single choice drop down and select a different question type.
Next, you can add your option by clicking the “Add new answer” input box. You can add multiple options but there has to be one single correct answer. You can also drag your options and rearrange the order of the options. Select the correct answer to your question and this is how you can create a single choice question.
Multiple choice
Multiple choice questions are similar to single choice. The main difference is there can be multiple correct answers to this question type. So add your question and then your options. Afterwards, you can select the correct answers from the options.
You can also choose a single option as the correct option, but if that’s the case, it’s better using the single choice question type.
True or false
Next, we have the true or false quiz type. As you know, a true or false question gives the user a statement and the user has to decide if the statement is true or false.
Just like before, you can add in your question or in this case a statement. Next, you’ll see 2 options, true or false. From these 2 options select the correct one. That’s how you can create a true or false question.

Matching
This is an interesting type of question. Here you can ask a question and then the students have to match the correct answers. The answers will have two parts, question and answer. Students must match both parts making it a correct pair. Take a look at the screenshot below for clarification.
As you can see, the question is asking the students to match the name of famous personalities from the given choices. To add in a pair, you must click “Add new answer”. Then write the correct answer on both parts, the question and the answer. It is also possible to add an explanation. If you hover your mouse over a pair (either in question or answer) a button with “Add explanation” will appear. You can click it and add your explanation.
When this question appears in the frontend, all the parts will be scrambled and students will have to arrange them in the correct matching pair.
Image matching
The next quiz type is image matching. This is like the previous question type but here, students will be asked to match images that pair correctly. Look at the screenshot below for a better understanding.
Keywords
The keyword question type asks the students a question, and students can write their answer in a box. It can have multiple answers, but it has to match with the keywords that you’ve provided.
Let’s also take a look at how the question will look like when students take the quiz.
Students don’t have to match the keyword order. They can write their answers in any order, and it will be correct as long as it matches with any of the keywords that you entered during the question creation.

Fill in the gap
The fill in the gap is a popular question type. Here you can write a statement and provide a blank space which the student is supposed to fill up using a word(s). Look at the following screenshot for a better idea.
In the frontend, the students will see a blank space where you placed the third brackets [ ].
That’s all the questions from MasterStudy LMS. Now the other way where you can add the questions is the question bank. That’s the green button beside the “Question” button. If you click on it, you’ll be presented with an interface. Here you can name the question bank, choose how many questions you want to display, and choose which question category the questions will be displayed from.
You can also access the question settings by clicking the “Settings” tab right beside the “Questions” tab.

Conclusion
MasterStudy LMS has various question types for you to use. Sometimes, using a single type of question might make the students feel dull. In order to keep your students motivated and attentive, you can mix different question types.
That brings our MasterStudy LMS tutorial on quiz to an end. You now know the different methods through which you can add questions to your course. You can add questions when you’re creating the course. Just create a section, and then add lessons to that section. Then also add a quiz to it. If you’ve created some questions or quizzes beforehand, you can add those by using the Question library option on the top right corner of the quiz builder. That is how you can add different types of questions to your course and make them more interesting.
