For these reasons, many educators choose Tutor LMS as their LMS plugin to build an online education website. You can control each aspect of your LMS website. Tutor LMS fully integrates with Restrict Content Pro and allows you to control different content access on your website. We will further explore this plugin and see how you can control access and your memberships.

What is Restrict Content Pro?

Restrict Content Pro is a WordPress membership plugin that allows you to monetize content access. The plugin gives you full control over who can access your web content and who cannot. If you have an eLearning site, you already know that you need a content restriction system in order to control which users can access your courses.

By default, Tutor LMS uses Paid Membership Pro for membership management and membership subscription. But due to the high demand from the users, Restrict Content Pro integration was added to Tutor LMS. Restrict Content is a powerful tool that allows you to create pages and dynamically display content based on the user role or membership level.

Generally, content restriction plugins require 3rd party plugins like WooCommerce to operate. But Restrict Content Pro gives you all the necessary tools to control your content access. With Restrict Content Pro the following actions are possible:

  • Restrict access to your WordPress site or content based on user roles
  • Control the user access to content based on WordPress user role, access level, or membership level
  • Protect sensitive contents
  • Create separation between public and private content
  • Restrict access to entire pages or specific sections

Restrict Content also allows your users to register and login from the frontend. It also adds several features such as:

  • Multiple membership levels
  • Auto-created member pages
  • Auto-renewal
  • Payment gateways
  • Drip content
  • Upgrade/Downgrade membership
  • Member emails
  • Payment invoices
  • Prorated memberships
  • Redirect default login URLs
  • Content excerpts
  • Import/export data
  • Restrict content messages and much more.

There is a free version of Restrict Content, but you won’t get some of the most useful features of the plugin such as coupon or discount codes, prevent password sharing, free trials, detailed reporting, member email customization, Google reCAPTCHA, etc. It also removes the additional 2% Stripe fee when making payments.

How to use Tutor LMS and Restrict Content Pro integration to make more money

To use Restrict Content Pro with Tutor LMS, you have to purchase it separately. A big drawback of using any membership-based plugins is that the Earning and Commission subsystem will not work due to the nature of the plugin. Therefore, it is recommended by Themeum to have a separate agreement with your teachers about their earnings.

To begin, get Tutor LMS Pro, install and activate it on your site. (Please note, you need the free version of Tutor LMS to run the Pro version.)

In Restrict Content Pro you can create 2 types of membership plans:

  • Category-wise membership: Students will get complete access to an entire category (or sub-category) of courses
  • Full-site membership: You can create a membership plan that will allow students to access all courses by purchasing the plan.

Now, let’s discuss how to install Restrict Content Pro and get it working with Tutor LMS. First, get the Restrict Content Pro plugin, then install and activate it on your site. Once it’s activated, go to Tutor LMS Pro > Add-ons and enable the Restrict Content Pro addon.

Next, you need to select Restrict Content Pro as your eCommerce engine for Tutor LMS. To do this, you can go to Tutor LMS Pro > Settings and select the Monetization tab. Then from the “Select eCommerce Engine” dropdown, select Restrict Content Pro.

Now you can create Membership levels, members, setup payments, use category-based membership, etc. Let’s take a look at some of the things that you can do in Restrict Content Pro to have more control over your site’s content.

Membership Levels: Admins can create any number of membership levels that the customer can register for. You can create membership levels from Restrict > Membership Levels. Here you can name your membership level (such as Bronze, Silver, Gold, etc.) and add a description. This description will be displayed in the registration form.

You can also set the access level from the drop-down. The access level is numbered from 1 to 10 (1 being the lowest level and 10 being the highest). For payment, you can set a price and also a signup fee. You can add negative value to a sign-up fee to provide a discount. There are other options to explore such as the duration, maximum renewals, status, and user role. For more details, check out Restrict Content Pro’s Membership Level guideline post.

Add membership: You can also add or edit your members from Restrict > Memberships. Here you have to add the user’s email address, set membership level, status, set expiration date, etc.

You can also select the payment method and gateway customer and subscription ID. Once you’re done, click on the “Add Membership” button to add the member.

Category-based membership: It is possible to allow some members to access a specific category. To do this, first, create a membership level, then go to your course category page, then include the membership level. Members of that level will be able to access all the courses from that category. Using this method you can sell bundled courses.

Tutor LMS also added the Tutor LMS Course Bundle feature in one of the recent updates. With that, you can sell bundled courses as well.

Single-course access: It is also possible to control access to each course one by one. To do that, go to Tutor LMS Pro > Courses and select the course whose access you want to control. Then find the “Restrict this content” section where you’ll find 3 options. You can select the option that you prefer. But say we want to make a particular course available for all the “Silver” members with a member level of 7, we’re going to select the “Members of specific membership levels”, then select “Silver”.

Now only Silver-level members will be able to access this particular course. Using this method you can control access to each course.

Payment record: Here you can add a payment record for a user. You can enter the user name, select the membership level for the payment, set the amount of the payment, enter the date for the payment, transaction ID, and status.

So how do you earn more using Tutor LMS and Restrict Content Pro?

With Tutor LMS’s regular course sales system, the student of a course will normally enjoy lifetime access to a course. But if you use a membership model, you can sell membership subscriptions to your courses. That means, the student will have only a limited number of days access to the courses. Then they will need to pay again to get access.

Plus, you can use membership-level tactics to sell bundled courses. So you can sell course subscriptions and make recurring money. This will also allow the students to get more courses at a discount. This strategy works really well if your courses are connected with each other. You can bundle those courses and sell those courses to a specific member level.
