Blocksy is a popular and highly customizable WordPress theme that allows users to create versatile and modern websites. The theme has been designed and developed by Creative Themes. Blocksy has a free and premium version. With Blocksy you can simply import a starter site and start building your site. You can also build a site from scratch.
Blocksy gives you an intuitive header and footer builder so that you can build those sections with ease. You’ll also have a live preview as you keep updating your site. All the designs are responsive and will look good on any device. You can also switch between mobile, tablet, and desktop views as you keep customizing your site.
Some of the notable features of Blocksy are as follows:
- Lightning fast
- Clean code
- Fully responsive
- eCommerce ready
- Translation ready

Performance
If you look at the changelog, you’ll see a huge list of improvements. One of the primary concerns of the developers was the performance. You can rest assured that not a single line of JavaScript will load unless you need it. The same goes with the CSS. This will make your website a lot faster and perform more efficiently. Now the theme slider CSS only loads when it’s needed.
All of the php code was carefully structured into separate modules so that only the essential things load. This was confirmed by the Blocksy team.
The overall size of your website might increase with the increase of the customizer. This happens when there are repeated values. When you update to Blocksy 2 all the obsolete values will be removed from your database. It will also ensure that things stay clean as you move forward with your website.
The performance of Blocksy was always great. The good news is, that Blocksy’s team is saying Blocksy 2.0 performed better in every metric compared to the previous version of Blocksy.
Dynamic data and advanced post
Blocksy is well known to work amazingly with Gutenberg. Blocksy 2 introduced a Gutenberg block called the Advanced Posts. Using this block you can create a stunning post in seconds. You have the option to inherit from Customizer, choose a pattern, or create a custom layout.
We also understood that Creative Themes has future plans with the Gutenberg builder. They’re planning on adding full WooCommerce support to it too.
Some new features in the free version
Not all the new features are for Blocksy Premium. Several of the new features and improvements are seen in the free version as well. For instance, you can now insert CSS variables in the color options. You can also better organize pre-defined color palettes inside a modal.
If you’re using the single post type structure, you now have the option to change the image width. We can also see a better drag-and-drop feature in Flexy plugin. Again, the updated date is only shown when it is different than the created date.
New WooCommerce features
Creating an eCommerce site with Blocksy is always easy especially if you’re importing an starter template. When importing a template, it installs all the necessary elements for your eCommerce site including WooCommerce. Blocksy 2.0 introduced several new features for WooCommerce. From the official Blocksy 2 blog post, we can see the following features were introduced for WooCommerce:
- Variation swatches

New features in Blocksy premium
The new features of Blocksy update are seen on the free as well as the premium version. While there are many changes in the free version, the premium version seems to have the most changes. For instance, a compare bottom bar is introduced for the compare product extension. This is a great feature for those who have an eCommerce site.
Conditions modules such as AND & OR relations functionality, range date/time option, recurring days option, request cookie option, etc. were also introduced. Here are some of the Blocksy premium features introduced in the new version.
