How to create course certificates in MasterStudy LMS 

If you want to create course certificates in MasterStudy LMS, you need to get MasterStudy LMS Pro. The certificate builder is a premium feature of the plugin, so without MasterStudy LMS Pro, you won’t be able to create or add course certificates to your courses. Once you have the pro version of the plugin, you can proceed with this guide.

To open up the certificate builder, navigate to WordPress Dashboard > MS LMS > Settings and click on the Certificate tab. Within the Certificate Builder section, click on the Get Started button to open up the certificate builder.

This will open up the MasterStudy LMS certificate builder. This is a completely different interface which allows you to design your course certificate. 

On the left side of the screen there are various certificate templates available. At the bottom, you have a place to rename your certificate. On the right side of the screen you’ll find two tabs, Elements and Backgrounds. 

• Elements: In the Elements tab you’ll find various elements such as texts, images, shapes, certificate code, course name, etc.

• Backgrounds: In the Backgrounds tab, you can upload a certificate background design, or choose a background from the existing ones.

Now to actually start designing your certificate, you can either use a template, then customize it to your liking. Or, if you have designed a certificate background yourself, you can upload it. Then you can add various elements to it. The important elements of a certificate are as following:

• Logo or title of your eLearning site
• Certificate heading (Certificate of Accomplishment/Achievement, etc.)
• Student’s name
• Some more text explaining the nature of the certificate
• Course name
• Course completion date
• Signature of instructor or institution head

If you want to add something extra, you can go ahead and do it. But the elements mentioned above are the most common for certificates. In the next part of our MasterStudy LMS tutorial, we will create a certificate from scratch. We will use a template background added by MasterStudy LMS. You can follow along the steps.

Step 1: Creating a new certificate

At this point of our MasterStudy LMS tutorial on certificates, we’re going to create a new certificate. To start, click on the ‘+’ icon to start creating a new certificate.

Then you’ll be asked to choose the orientation or layout of the certificate you want to create. You can either choose vertical or horizontal. We’re choosing the horizontal.

Step 2: Naming the certificate and choosing a certificate background

After you choose the layout, you’ll be given a blank canvas. You can give your certificate a name by clicking on the “New template” section located at the bottom. Next, click the Backgrounds tab and hit the “Select Image” button. Now you can upload your certificate background if you’ve created one. If you’re creating your own horizontal certificate background, make sure to use a 1600 x 1050px image or higher for the best results.

We choose one of the default backgrounds from MasterStudy LMS.

Step 3: Adding images and texts

Now we’re going to place in a site logo, title and some texts. For this, we’re going to click the Elements tab from the right sidebar. Then we will add the image element. After adding the image element, click “Select Image” and choose your logo.

After you choose your site logo, you can resize it using any of the 8 square dots around the image. You can also drag and drop the image anywhere on the certificate body.

Using the same method, you can add text elements to your certificate. We’ve added some texts, and this is how our certificate looks right now.

Remember you can resize, and reposition the elements you place on your certificate. For texts, you also have the option to customize font size and font style as well.

Step 4: Adding dynamic data

Although we have texts on our certificate, you can notice there are some places we’ve left blank. Now this is the part where we’re going to insert dynamic data. Here are the elements that we’re going to choose for the dynamic data:

• Student name
• Course name
• Instructor name
• Current date
• Certificate code

After adding all these elements in the appropriate place and also customizing the font size and style, this is how our final MasterStudy LMS certificate design looks like.

Now your certificate has all the important elements in it. You can also add other details such as course details, co-instructor name, course progress, etc.

Step 5: Save and link certificate

Now that the certificate design is complete, you can click on the “Save Certificate” button located at the bottom of the screen. This will save your certificate.

After the certificate is saved, you can click the “Preview” button to see what your certificate looks like. The certificate will also be listed on the left sidebar.

We also have to link or add the certificate to the appropriate course. To complete our MasterStudy LMS tutorial, we’re going to show you how you can add this certificate to your course. If you want to quickly go to the courses section, click “Link Certificates” on the top bar. Then click on the Courses tab. This should lead you to the courses section.

Now edit the course where you want to include the certificate. Open up the course builder and click the “Settings” tab. Now click the Certificate option from the left side-menu. You should see a drop-down section, click on it and choose the certificate that you just created.
