Step 2: Create a Zoom app

To host your live online classes, you can use Zoom. As you may already know, Zoom is a platform for video-conferencing, meetings, etc. Zoom also comes with an API that you can connect with your LMS site which helps you integrate Zoom with your site effortlessly. To start, we have to create a Zoom Server-to-Server OAuth app, which will give us an authorized connection with Zoom.

First, we have to create a Zoom account and then visit the app marketplace. To find the marketplace, click on the Advanced dropdown and select App Marketplace. From the top right corner of the screen click on the dropdown Develop > Build App. Then scroll down and find Server-to-Server OAuth and click on the “Create” button.

Now you will be asked to name your app. There’s no special requirement here, you can give your app any name. After naming your app, you’ll see the app credentials

Then click on the “Continue” button and move on to the information tab. Here you can put in some basic information and also developer contact information. Add this info and click on the “Continue” button to move on to the next step. We’re not going to do much in the Features tab. But in this tab, you can find your secret token and verification token.

In the “Scopes” tab, you can configure your app’s necessary scopes based on your Tutor LMS integration requirements. It is recommended that you select all scopes for Meeting, Webinar, Recording, and User. You can add the scopes by clicking on the “+ Add Scopes” button and selecting the scopes you want.

After you’re done with adding scopes, proceed to the next step. This is the final step where you can simply click on the “Activate” button to activate your app. If everything’s ok, you should see a success notification saying that your app is now activated.

Now go back to app credentials and copy these credentials because you’ll need to paste these on your Tutor LMS Zoom addon.

Step 3: Connecting Zoom with Tutor LMS

Now we have to head back to our WordPress website. If you haven’t enabled your Zoom addon, enable it now from Tutor LMS Pro > Addons. After that go to Tutor LMS Pro > Zoom. Paste in your Account ID, Client ID, and Client Secret found in the App Credentials tab of your Zoom account.

Besides ‘Lessons’ and ‘Quiz’, you’ll find a new option ‘Zoom Live Lesson’, click on it to start creating the online live class using Zoom.

Step 5: Host live classes

Once you click on ‘Zoom Live Lesson’ it will open up a small window. Here you can configure the meeting’s information. Give it a name, summary, password, and date. Also, put in the correct Time Zone and set the Auto Recording settings.

Once you’re done with these settings, click on the “Create Meeting” button to save the changes and create your Zoom meeting on your Zoom account.

Next in the monetization tab, you don’t need to do much. Move on to the Customization tab, here you can enable/disable live chat and live chat reply features. In the Visibility tab, go to the privacy settings and select ‘Unlisted’ as you’re creating premium or paid content.

OBS Studio is open-source streaming and screen-recording software. You can use this software to stream your live classes. You can use other streaming applications if you wish. But OBS Studio is very easy to use. You can use the customization wizard to easily set everything up. Select “Optimized for streaming, recording is secondary” and the setup wizard will customize the settings for streaming. Also, set the FPS to “60” for a smooth streaming session.

Now you have to paste the steam key (on OBS’s stream key field) that you copied from your YouTube live-streaming dashboard. Next, you have to set up your bitrate which might take a little fine tuning so that you’re live session doesn’t lag during streaming. By default, the bitrate is set to 2500kbps, and for most teaching content, it’s fine. But if you have a strong internet connection, you can set it up as high as 5000kbps. Then on the Audio Mixer make sure that the desktop audio and mic audio are ok.

Step 5: Setting the scene

Now we have to add a source that the OBS will broadcast to all students. To add it, right-click on the ‘+’ under the ‘Sources’ tab and select ‘Display Capture’. This will capture the whole screen of your display.

Great! Now you know how to teach live online classes! But there are a few more things to do.

Step 6: Going live and sharing the YouTube link

Now click on the ‘Start Streaming’ button on OBS studio and check the connection health of both OBS and YouTube streaming. If everything looks ok, you’re now ready to go live on YouTube. So start your YouTube live streaming and then click on the ‘share’ icon and share the URL of your live online class.

Step 7: Live online class announcement

Sharing the link won’t be enough, you should also make announcements of your live online classes to notify students. The best way to make the announcement is to use a Facebook group or Email chain.
