If you have the latest version of Tutor LMS, and everything set up, you’re ready to get started. Follow the steps given below to use Google Meet with Tutor LMS for live classes and meetings.
Step 1 – Enabling Google Meet addon
The first thing that we have to do is to enable the Google Meet addon. Navigate to Tutor LMS > Add ons from your WordPress dashboard and find Google Meet. Enable this addon.
The addon will be activated as soon as you enable it. If you don’t see it under your Tutor LMS option, just refresh the page. It should be added. Now you can access your Google Meet settings from Tutor LMS > Google Meet.
Step 2 – Configuring app credentials and Publishing the app
Now that Google Meet is enabled, it’s time to configure its app credentials. To configure your Google Meet, visit your Google Developer Console page. First we have to create a project. From your Google Cloud dashboard, click on the dropdown located on the top left corner of the screen. A new section will popup, from that new section you’ll find a button called “New Project”, click on it.
Give your project a name and select an organization. If you can’t find the organization, then leave it as it is. Finally, click the “Create” button. Once the project is created, it’s going to bring you to the project dashboard. From this dashboard, click the “APIs & Services” button located under Quick access.
Then click “Enable APIS & Services” from the top bar.
Next you’ll see a list of Google APIs and services. From this list, you need to select Google Calendar. You can search for Google Calendar from the search bar or you can find it yourself from the list. After selecting Google Calendar API, it’s going to take you to the product details page. From here click the “Enable” button.
In the next screen, you’ll be brought to the Google Calendar API details. From this screen click on the Create Credentials button located on the top right corner of the screen.
The credential type has two steps, first you have to select which data type you’ll be using. There will be two options: User data and Application data. Select User data and click on the “Next” button.
Now you’ll need to configure the OAuth consent. Give your app a name and provide a valid user support email and developer contact email. Note that your App name and ID should be the same otherwise you’ll face an error. Click on the “Save and Continue” button to proceed to the next step.
The next step is OAuth Client ID. From the Application type dropdown, select “Web application”. Now we have to select an authorized redirect URI. To get this, go back to your Tutor WordPress dashboard. Go to Tutor LMS Pro > Google Meet and you’ll see a link on the top. This is the URI that Google Calendar needs. Copy this URI and head back to your Google developer console.
Under “Authorized redirect URIs” click on the “+ ADD URI” button to add the URI input field. Paste the link that you just copied from your Tutor LMS site.
Now click on the “Create” button and a JSON file will be generated for you. As it is mentioned on the note, it might take 5 minutes to a few hours to take effect.
After the JSON file is created, you can download it by clicking on the “Download” button. So go ahead and download the JSON file.
After downloading the file, click on the “Done” button. In the next step, you can publish this app. Click on the OAuth consent screen tab from the left side menu. Then click on the “Publish App” button under Testing. You’ll be asked for a confirmation, read the text and click on the “Confirm” button to continue.

Step 3 – Connecting Tutor LMS to Google Meet
With your app published, now we’re ready to connect our Tutor LMS site to Google Meet. Go to your Tutor LMS WordPress admin dashboard and visit Tutor LMS Pro > Google Meet. Remember the JSON file you downloaded? In the 2nd section of this screen, either drag and drop the JSON file or click on the “Choose a file” button and upload the JSON file from your computer.
After the file is uploaded, you should see a message saying the app is not permitted yet. Click on the “Google’s Consent Screen” and this will lead you to Google sign-in page.
On this screen, set the email address you want to add. If you’re signed out of your Google account, you might have to sign in. You might be given a warning, to proceed, click on Advanced and click on the link at the bottom “Go to (your site)”.
Now add all the permissions you want your Tutor LMS site to have and click on the Continue button. Since we created the Google Calendar app, we’re going to include all the Google Calendar permissions.
Now you will be redirected back to your WordPress site. You should be in the Google Meet section and it should say “Meet Account Activated”.
That’s it, you’ve connected Google Meet with your Tutor LMS site!
Step 4 – Creating a meeting or online live session with Google Meet
Now that Google Meet is connected, we can create online classes. For Google Meet, there are two ways to create online meetings or classes in Tutor LMS:
- From the course builder under a topic
- From Google Meet section in the course editor
You can use the course builder of Tutor LMS to create an online class for a lesson. It is also possible to create an online meeting from the Google Meet option. We will see both options. Let’s start with the course builder.
With the course builder, you can create topics and add lessons within those topics. If you expand a topic you’ll see the “Meet Live Lessons” button at the bottom of the topic. Of course you have to have Google Meet addon enabled and connected for this to work.
Click on the button and it will allow you to setup the online live meeting. Here you can give a name to your meeting, add a description and also add the meeting time. You can also select the time zone and enable the checkbox that marks all the enrolled students as attendees. Finally click on the “Create Meeting” button to finalize your decision.
Using this method you can create as many meetings as you want for your topics.
If you scroll down, you’ll find another section called “Google Meet”. Here you can click the “Create a Google Meet” button to set up a live online class. This will launch the same setup discussed above.
You can find all your meetings in the Active Meeting tab of Tutor LMS Pro > Google Meet. You can start the meetings from here, or you can edit the meetings.
If you click on the Start Meeting button, it will lead you to the Google Calendar app. From here you can click on your live class and start the meeting.
That’s how you can create a meeting and also launch a meeting with Google Meet from your Tutor LMS site. If you want to configure some settings for your online class, go to Tutor LMS Pro > Google Meet and click on the Settings tab.
Here you can set the timezone, choose meeting reminder time, set default event status, and other settings. You can also choose the visibility of the event on your Google Calendar from here.
